Measuring the entire stem profile

This procedure follows the same steps as in measuring single diameters. However, instead of closing the measurement dialog after obtaining the height and diameter data, the resulting data is added to the stem profile. If you are going to measure stem profile from same position like is your position (position of devices) in map, you can use button “Use position”. Using device position and tree position first two steps of the measure process (1. Stem base and 2. Distance + Inclination) will be calculated.

Button “Use position” is active only when field DBH_mm is not empty.

The stem profile is built diameter by diameter.

In the stem profile chart the results are dotted. An overview table of height/diameter data in the measurement dialog enables you to edit data interactively: points of the stem profile can be individually deleted. In case of height measurement of slant trees the stem profile is corrected automatically.

Stem profile model tag box

If tagged, stem profile contours are transformed using Riemer-Gadow-Sloboda (1995) function defining expected shape of the profile. As a consequence, the modeled curvature of stem edge does not have to directly cover points symbolizing individual measurements. Calculated volume of stem also appears in the top left corner of stem chart. If "Stem profile model" untagged, program only connects neighbouring measured points of the profile with line.

Stem profile without "Stem profile model"

The same profile transformed using "Stem profile model" function

  1. In the Trees form switch to the Stem profile form
  2. Click the Measure button to open the “Measure remote diameter” dialog box

  1. Measure the first diameter (see previous pages)
  2. If you start to measure first diameter at breast height, click Use DBH to import DBH from basic date form
  3. Click the Add button

You are automatically redirected to the next diameter measurement

  1. Measure the inclination and read and type number of ticks for each diameter
  2. Click the Add button
  3. Click Close button to return to Stem profile form

  1. The stem profile has been interactively drawn on the chart
