Creating a buffer

If no line is selected then buffers are created around all lines in the layer. To create buffer for only a specific line, select it. If you use the “Fixed size” option all buffers will have the same width.



If you use the “Size from attribute” option each buffer will be assigned a specific width according to its attribute value.
  1. Make sure that a line layer is selected
  2. Select the line around which you want to create a buffer
  3. Click the Tools button


  1. Choose the Create buffer item


  1. Choose the Fixed size or Size from data field
  2. In case you have chosen “fixed size” enter the size into the Buffer size edit box
  3. Choose a target data layer for storage of the buffer

Note: Only polygon and line layers are available

  1. Click OK



  1. Buffer appears on the map
