Set plot / subplot area – explanation

Size of the inventory plot needs to be precisely of predefined value. Area of all plots will be adjusted based on defined plot area. Inventory Analyst also adds new attribute called Area_ha to the Plot table and fills that with appropriate value (e.g. area expressed in hectares). In case of work with variable plot size it is possible to calculate automatically size of inventory plot based on known tree position. Procedure of calculating plot area consists of:
- Calculating maximum distance
 as distance to the farthest tree
- Calculating maximum area
 using equation
- Calculating partial tree area
 using equation , where in number of trees on the inventory plot
- Calculating total area
 using equation
- And finally calculating inventory plot radius using equation
