Load data from file

A GPS reference point may be measured by GPS and then post processed in order to increase accuracy. Post-processed data in compatible format (db, dbf, mdb, accdb, xls, xlsx) can be loaded to Field-Map. To copy values from individual fields of the table click the number and then click into particular edit box. This approach has been used in the example on the right.

GPS measurement

Click the GPS measurement button to directly measure your position as a GPS reference point.

WGS 1984 co-ordinates

Click WGS 1984 co-ordinates button to enter Latitude, Longitude and Altitude of the GPS reference point.

Rotation

While converting co-ordinates from local to global, you may get the message shown below.

There are basically two possible reasons for this message. The first reason is that you have taken measurements using an angle encoder in relative angles (not north oriented). In this situation you really need to include the rotation in the conversion. The second reason is that the GPS measurement was not precise and points measured by GPS are slightly shifted by a certain angle from those measured by the laser and angle encoder. In that case choose not to include rotation in the conversion.

  1. Click the Tools button

  1. Select the Georeferencing menu item

  1. Select the Projected co-ordinate system
  2. Select the GPS reference point to which you want to assign the co-ordinates
  3. Click the Get co-ordinates button

  1. Choose one of the options for loading co-ordinates (file, direct measurement or direct input of WGS 84 coordinates)
  2. When the co-ordinates are loaded click OK

  1. Click the Local to global button to convert the co-ordinates

  1. Click Yes to confirm

  1. Click OK

  1. Click Close
  2. All entities are shifted to their actual position and can be displayed correctly in the map
