Local Cartesian co-ordinates are suitable for research plots where the relative position is required. The origin of the co-ordinates [0,0,0] is in the center or in the corner of the plot. For a general mapping purpose it is often necessary to use a common geographic co-ordinate system and map projection systems. Using projected co-ordinates also enables you to combine Field-Map layers with existing digital maps (vector and raster background maps). Field-Map provides the user with hundreds of predefined common geographic and projection systems. In addition users can define their own system by specifying its parameters. For the use of GPS, it is necessary to define geotransformation between the WGS 84 co-ordinate system and the currently used projected system. |
