Creating a grid of points

This function creates a grid of points in the point layer within the plot boundary. You can create a grid of any size, choose distribution of points (randomized or regular) and also density of the grid (full or half). If the point layer is not empty, you have to choose whether to keep or delete existing points before creating the grid.



Randomization

Tag the Randomize point position option and specify the maximum range of “randomization” to randomize your point positions.

  1. Double click the point layer to make it active
  2. Click the Tools button



  1. Select the Create Grid item



  1. Type the size of the grid into the Grid size edit box
  2. Type the X and Y co-ordinates of grid origin into edit boxes Easting and Northing

Note: You can paste co-ordinates of your current position or co-ordinates of selected point using buttons Paste current position or Paste selected point

  1. Tag Randomize point position if you want spread points randomly
  2. Choose the Full density or Half density option
  3. Click OK Field-Map calculates the number of points and shows a confirmation message



  1. Click Yes to create a grid of points


  1. The points are added to the map
    1. Grid with equal distance between points
    2. Grid with randomly located points
