Reference points

Because there may be a patch of dense shrubs or other obstacles in the plot you may not be able to see all trees. In order to measure their position you will need to use reference points. Select position where you can see the center of the plot (A) and establish a reference point (B) in this location. Then move to a position (C) from where you can measure the tree as well as see the reference point. As a result you will determine the position of the tree..

The position of the reference point is temporarily fixed by a range pole with a cylindrical reflector.

Pole length

In order to change pole length (height of the reflector) of already established reference point go to Tools->Georeferencing->Temporary reference points tab (F9 hotkey).

Select reference point in the table and change parameters on the right side of window.

  1. Double click the Reference points layer to make it active
  2. Click the Add point button

  1. Type the pole length (height of the reflector above the ground), equipment height and offset of the reflector into the edit boxes
  2. Click OK

Aim at the reflector on reference pole and send data to computer
