5.10 Compacting and repairing database records

The Compact and Repair Database function actually compacts the database if the project is based on Access database format.

Compacting

To make the function available for projects based on Access database format, the project must not be currently opened. Start Field-Map Project Manager without opening a project and select the menu item Tools > Compact and Repair Database. A list of available projects appears.

By running the Compact and Repair Database utility, you can improve the performance of the database. This utility rearranges the way the database file is stored on the disk. When completed, the compacted database has reclaimed wasted space, and is usually smaller than the original. Compacting also re-stores table records into their Primary Key order.

1. Select the menu item Tools > Compact and Repair Database.

2. When finished, an information window appears.
